Remembering an Unsung Hero

JULY 9, 2009
This week, MAB lost one of our dearest friends, Tammy Drozd, after a long battle with cancer. Tammy became a part of the MAB family when she provided leadership for the installation of Accessible Pedestrian Signals (APS), which assists blind people in crossing Charlotte's streets. APS began as simply a concept needing an ambassador, and quickly became a reality with Tammy's guideance.

Her diligence in making Charlotte more accessible played a vital role in Charlotte being named the "Most livable City in the US for the Blind" in 2003. As a result of the successes of Tammy's dedication to APS, MAB named Tammy its' "Unsung Hero" in 2005, as she so selflessly stepped forward when a need arose and changed untold lives for the better.

Tammy forever leaves her mark in our hearts and on our city streets. Whenver you see the APS on city street corners, you will see tangible evidence of the blessings Tammy brought to this community through her tireless work on behalf of Charlotte's visually impaired people.

Tammy, you will be forever missed.
