VOLUNTEER
Volunteering at MAB
MAB is currently seeking volunteers in the areas of reception and transportation.
Volunteers at MAB will be part of a small team that provides rehabilitative services to approximately 1000 people who are blind and visually impaired living in Mecklenburg, Union and Cabarrus counties. We are looking for compassionate and friendly volunteers, who are at least 18 years of age to join our group in assisting clients regain their independence following the onset of visual impairment. Volunteer training will provide basic information on vision loss and what to do when you meet a blind person for the first time. No prior experience with visual impairment is needed. Volunteers are asked to consider working a minimum of 4 hours a week for at least 6 months. Agency hours are Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. To apply, contact Laura Park-Leach at 704-887-5111.
Volunteer receptionist:
Receptionist duties at main office: answering phones, greeting and checking in guests, performing small one-time tasks to support the therapists.
Receptionist duties at the low vision clinic: answering phones, greeting guests, collecting payments, creating receipts and packaging devices for patients. This environment has fewer telephone calls and visitors than the main office.
Other optional duties: assisting with fundraising activities and marketing our services to the public.
Volunteer driver:
Volunteer drivers should have a clean driving record for the past three years. The agency requires a background check and drug screening prior to beginning. MAB will pay all charges for the screenings.
MAB volunteers will use the seven-passenger agency vans to transport clients for medical appointments, shopping trips, rehabilitation training, and other community resources.
Drivers may be asked to stay with the client to assist with guiding them or shopping.
